Chongqing (Chunking or Chungking), a municipality at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers in southwestern China is a large city boasting a large, domed Great Hall of the People in the pedestrianized area of the People's Square. It once had its own racecourse, although its exact location is unknown. It is also uncertain whether it was a thoroughbred racecourse, or just used for pony racing. |
|
Racing was certainly being staged at the track in the 1930s, as it hosted the International Race Club Trophy which was won by Man O'War. Of course, it is not the magnificent, world beating American thoroughbred of the same name which was around in the late 1910s and throughout the 1920s, but was a pony named after it. |

The extremely rare, exquisite trophy below is shown courtesy of David Copland. |
